August 13, 2012

Hello!

This week was great! So remember that one guy I told you about last week? Se from France? Well... we had some amazing lessons throughout the week and when we invited him to be baptized he just wasn't so sure... He wasn't ready to commit to coming to church for three hours every week for the rest of his life. He said "I may get bored." We definitely explained to him the "why" of church, but he wasn't "satisfied", he told us. So we offered to give him a tour of the church before Sunday so he could get a feel of what church would be like and so we could explain the schedule to him.

The church tour was fantastic! He was a little apprehensive at the beginning, but when we ended our tour in the chapel a huge change had come over him. "Wow. I feel so great here, " he told us. We continued on explaining the Sabbath and the Sacrament and he was amazed. He told us that it all makes sense as to why we want him to come so bad! He was all smiles and told us how excited he was for Sunday! His new friend in the ward was with us and she was awesome in inviting him to activities and offered to introduce him to people Sunday. It was so perfect. MEMBERS ARE THE KEY TO MISSIONARY WORK! We were not able to be there yesterday (I was singing in another ward's Sacrament Mtg-- Sis H's ward, Mom. The one you email in that group thing), but we were not worried at all: Se was in great hands.

We were informed that Se was telling everyone at church how much he loved it there (he texted us all about it, too!) and told everyone that he wants to join and become a part of this congregation. OH MY GOODNESS!! We are so happy and so excited for him! I am so grateful for the power of the Holy Spirit that changes hearts and testifies truth when we are open to receive it. We are hoping to get him baptized on the 25th of this month!

Lan and Ban, our new investigators that are quitting smoking, are officially on day 2 of being smoke-free! We went over last night and walked through their house, asking them where they would be most tempted to light up for a smoke. We placed small and large pictures of Christ all over their house and inside their car. They were excited! We have members going to their house with snacks and they are both so grateful for the support and love they are receiving from their new ward family!

Like I said: MEMBERS ARE THE KEY.

Ira and Cord are two kids that just moved in with their dad and stepmom (also converts). Ira is 10 and Cord is 12. They both want to be baptized! August 25th is their big day! We've been having Family Home Evenings with them and little Ira is learning English so fast!

Ira and Cord and their dad and stepmom are from the Marshall Islands and speak Marshallese. All of them speak English, too, but Ira is learning. It's cool to have a lesson and have someone translate all you say. Except I think Ira's now getting annoyed with it because he's starting to really understand on his own. They used to live with their mom in the Marshall Islands but she decided to send them to Hawaii to live with other family. They'd been there for a little while while Taa (dad) and Jem (stepmom) tried to get them here. They're finally here and we're happy they're wanting to be baptized too!

Miracles are happening every day! I'm so grateful to be a part of it!

I LOVE YOU ALL! STAY COOL! (literally. It's hot  here!)

H! H! HfI! * * *
See a good week!
Love, Sister Sunscreen
